Bamboo cane furniture
You may have heard Bamboo cane furniture referred to as rattan furniture, rattan cane furniture, bamboo furniture or wicker furniture, so why the difference in names? We should really call Bamboo cane furniture by its correct name, rattan furniture, but most people in this country think of cane furniture when they want conservatory furniture. This misnaming probably came about through gardeners calling the bamboo sticks that they use in the garden.
Bamboo cane furniture is the primary material used in the production of rattan, Cane and wicker furniture and includes the entire pole, skin and all. Bamboo cane furniture is imported from South East Asia and resembles our grapevine and climbs along the floor of the jungle and through the trees. Bamboo cane furniture is incredibly strong, beautifully handmade and easy to maintain. Cane is the second layer, the skin or bark of the rattan palm, after the outer thorns have been removed. s
Bamboo cane furniture is a
material that resembles rattan, and is often mistaken for
it. However, one of the biggest differences between bamboo
and rattan is that bamboo has a hollow centre, and rattan a
solid centre. Bamboo cane furniture tends to split and break
more easily than rattan, and so it is not used as often as
rattan in cane furniture construction.
